To The Little Guys

"Not a perfect soldier, but a good man" - Captain America

I just recently saw the trailer for Bumblebee, and was instantly drawn in by the really epic music (I recommend listening to it while reading this!). I haven't seen any of the Transformers movies, but I do recall some intense battles of epic proportions with metal behemoths fighting it out for the fate of the earth. And amongst all the wreckage, all the carnage, was little Bumblebee - duking it out with the heavyweights. He is the smallest guy out there, no weight to move around - just a small, yellow Volkswagen Beetle with signature black stripes. But he has heart. this movie trailer inspired a very Catholic sentiment: that the little guys are the ones who get things done.
God works through the little guys, the ones no one thinks anything about. He sends them the ample humility of their situation to turn it into unparalleled greatness, should they accept it with a humble heart. think of it, it was David who struck down Goliath. Little 17 year-old Joan of Arc who commanded the French armies in the Siege of Orleans. Simple Bernadette who was given the visions of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was a lowly archangel St. Michael who banished the greatest seraphic angel Lucifer to hell. Jesus was satisfied more with the woman who gave all she had, be it a measly 2 mites, rather than the immense riches of the Pharisees.
God does not look for the strongest, he looks for those with the most heart. For an ego of pride does nothing but get in the way of Christ's plans for us. We must lie down and give our Lord everything, most importantly our weaknesses. Through our weakness, we are strong. We must empty ourselves in order to be filled with grace. Trust in Him that has given us everything, and we have nothing to lose.
So this is my ode to you, the little guys, the ones who God places on your shoulders the most important missions of the heavenly kingdom. Because in the end, everyone is little before God. The "little guys" of the world already have that grace of knowing that, and are one step closer to sainthood because of it.

Litany of Humility:
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart,
Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved... From the desire of being extolled ... From the desire of being honored ... From the desire of being praised ... From the desire of being preferred to others... From the desire of being consulted ... From the desire of being approved ... From the fear of being humiliated ... From the fear of being despised... From the fear of suffering rebukes ... From the fear of being calumniated ... From the fear of being forgotten ... From the fear of being ridiculed ... From the fear of being wronged ... From the fear of being suspected ...
That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I ... That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease ... That others may be chosen and I set aside ... That others may be praised and I unnoticed ... That others may be preferred to me in everything... That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…
